Use Case
Model-View Specific Consumption of Characteristics Data in Teamcenter Quality
Source: Siemens Digital Industries Software
Teamcenter Quality software supports a closed-loop quality approach from design to manufacturing. Built on top of the Teamcenter software product lifecycle management (PLM) backbone, Teamcenter Quality helps you leverage product and process information, as well as share cross-departmental workflows so you can streamline the core quality management processes.
Teamcenter Quality works in the Active Workspace client (AWC) for Teamcenter. Active Workspace is an innovative web-based client platform that simplifies PLM for all users involved in product lifecycle, accelerating user adoption and shortening time-to-value by providing an intuitive experience anytime, anywhere, on any device.
Teamcenter Quality, which is part of the Siemens Xcelerator business platform of software, hardware and services , helps you support all of the quality-relevant processes required in the overall product lifecycle.
Graphical Inspection Planning: Key Element in Teamcenter Quality AWC Release 6.3 for CPIP
The Teamcenter Quality AWC 6.3 Release for CPIP (Control Plan Inspection Plan) highlights graphical inspection planning as a key feature. This process entails using a 3D model to transfer characteristics to the inspection plan. Improved usability and ballooning functionality based on 2D/3D PMIs enhance product quality, strengthen customer relations, and boost satisfaction while reducing development time. This comprehensive solution combines process and design-focused inspection planning with control plan management to minimize rework and lower costs.
Improved ballooning functionality
Teamcenter Quality CPIP now accommodates model views defined within the 3D model. Unlike previous versions where all balloons appeared in a single view, the new release allows users to visualize model views with specific PMIs directly in a ballooning tab. This enhancement ensures that only relevant PMIs are displayed, streamlining the process of importing specific balloons.
Note: Opcenter Quality Control Web Inspection also supports these model views for inspection purposes.
Another focus on the topic of graphical inspection planning and ballooning is the actual function for selecting and importing characteristics / PMI’s. Product Manufacturing Information can be imported from model views, which are defined in the CAD systems. In addition, the characteristics can be marked over different model views and imported together.
PMI Import from Model Views
- Characteristic with PMI can be imported from Model Views, which are defined in the CAD systems
- Selection of relevant characteristics in the 3D View or in the table below
- Characteristics can be marked over different model views and imported together
- Import of the Balloons
- Additional imported information can be seen
- For the selected characteristic, the balloon is highlighted

"Action Handling" Functionality within BCT CheckIt
As already announced in our last article on Multi Target Checks in the BCT Software Insights issue 06/2024, lets dive deeper into the automated execution of actions to ensure streamlined processes - especially when they have to follow special grouping guidelines.
The grouping concept means that checks are performed on multiple objects (as a group). The resulting objects, item revisions or datasets are then grouped (multi target group) and specific actions can be performed on the whole group.
The general functionality of BCT CheckIt is simple
A user needs to ensure Teamcenter data is correct. Using BCT CheckIt, the data validation tool for Teamcenter, they select a Teamcenter object to validate. BCT CheckIt then checks the selected objects against specific requirements defined in the validation and provides a report with the results, showing both successful and failed checks, along with guidance for fixing any errors.
“Action configuration” within BCT CheckIt Designer with multiple validations
The BCT CheckIt administrator can use BCT CheckIt Designer tool to create rule configurations easily. During this process, the admin can define specific actions to be executed on the targets after validation. These actions can include setting specific property values or triggering workflows.
Grouping of targets sent into actions
During the configuration of actions to be performed on the targets, you can define whether an action is initiated for each dataset individually, a single action is started for all datasets collectively, or an action is triggered for datasets that match specific criteria.
Examples:
- Send all Datasets into a single workflow
- Send all passed Datasets into a single workflow
- Send all passed Datasets into their own workflow
- Send all passed Datasets into a workflow grouped by ItemRevision
- Send ItemRevisions into workflow if Datasets are passed
- Send ItemRevisions into workflow if Item is passed
- Send ItemRevisions into workflow if PDFs are passed
- Send ItemRevisions into workflow only if all targets in validation are passed
- Send Datasets to workflow if certain checks are passed
- Automatic recursive BOM release
Actions Summary
With the BCT CheckIt Designer action configuration, you can efficiently manage and streamline your processes. This includes grouping targets before initiating actions, selecting targets for actions based on their check results, and choosing targets based on the check results of related targets. Additionally, you can trigger actions based on validation results, ensuring a smooth and effective workflow.
The examples you reviewed should help you configure simple actions and highlight the possibilities for addressing advanced requirements. You can find these examples, along with many more, by clicking the info button in the BCT CheckIt Designer. However, these examples do not represent the full range of capabilities. They are merely sample configurations for meeting specific requirements, which can often be addressed using different action or set configurations.

BCT Technology Days 2024 - Recap
July, 2024 - Digitalization. PLM. Manufacturing industry.
Many thanks to everyone who made the BCT Technology Days 2024 such a great success! Over 130 participants joined us at our headquarters in Willstaett, Germany, to explore the latest trends and possibilities in digitalization and process optimization within the area of design, development, and manufacturing. With 21 external speakers from Siemens, partners, and customers, alongside 15 internal experts, a wealth of knowledge was shared. Once again, BCT provided a wonderful setting for networking and communication. See you next year!
